MotoGP team manager provides update on Marc Marquez’s injury
“It’s a championship that will not be the same if Marc is not racing for the championship, and I think everybody knows.”Life with coronavirus: How businesses are turning to tech to cope with COVID-19 Repsol Honda have confirmed the extent of his injury, while announcing he will go under the knife in Barcelona hopefully on Tuesday.
Marc Marquez has been diagnosed with a broken humerus in his right arm following his violent crash at Turn 3 in the MotoGP season opener at Jerez. MotoGP medical staff have confirmed there is no other serious head or thoracic trauma but will remain under observation for 12 hours.“Marquez will travel to the Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona on Monday, July 20 and is aiming to be operated on by Dr Xavier Mir and his team on Tuesday, July 21st.“Recovery time is as yet unknown, the Repsol Honda Team will provide an update after the operation.”Marquez’s injury is the fourth in two weeks involving MotoGP contenders following major problems for Andrea Dovizioso, Alex Rins and Cal Crutchlow.Dovizioso suffered a broken collarbone in a motocross crash two weeks ago, but a swift operation and a fortnight of recuperation allowed the Ducati ace to secure a rostrum result in the Jerez race with third. Reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez suffered a broken arm and possible nerve damage after being struck by his own bike in a high-speed fall during the season-opening Spanish Grand Prix.
Jack Miller has declared the 2020 MotoGP title race wide open as it becomes increasingly likely that Marc Marquez and potentially other heavy-hitters will drop more points due to injury. Marquez was in clear discomfort as he was attended to by marshals and was taken to the medical centre where he had an X-ray. Recovering from an earlier off at Turn 4 that dropped him to 16th, the reigning world champion had managed to cut through the field to third, and was chasing down second-placed Maverick Vinales when he high-sided on the exit of Turn 3.
The manager for the MotoGP team of Marc Marquez said Wednesday he “isn’t counting the days” for the eight-time champion’s return from injury.“At this moment, we are not thinking in the timings,” Puig said “Marc will try to come back as soon as possible but from our point of view, from our mentality, we have a lot of respect for this guy, for all of our riders, but in particular, we want that Marc understands his healing is very important for us and for him. As a result, the eight-time World Champion has suffered a transverse diaphyseal fracture to his right humerus. Rins and Crutchlow were forced to miss the contest through their own injuries suffered during the weekend, the Suzuki racer getting side-lined by a dislocated shoulder inflicted in qualifying on Saturday afternoon, while Crutchlow was declared unfit after a crash in morning warm-up on Sunday morning. With Rins likely to be out until at Brno at the earliest, Marquez’s injury could remove another potential title contender from the mix, firmly thrusting Yamaha duo Fabio Quartararo-who took victory at Jerez- and Vinales into the spotlight along with Dovizioso.
And that’s why we’re not going to be counting the days to see when he’s coming back.”If he can’t race Sunday, the injury will cause Marc Marquez to miss his first MotoGP premier series race after winning six of the past seven championships since entering the circuit in 2013.“Frankly speaking, I don’t think the guys in the lead can be really proud or happy of winning a title without having the best rider of the world participating in it,” Puig said.
