Tropper must have been through a close bereavement to write a book like this.
"Beautifully crafted", "Fantastically funny." I can't get enough.

All of the classic Tropper elements are present, great dialogue, snarky but realistic characters, wayward male lead and just great writing telling an interesting story. I have discovered that Tropper has written two more books. The family set up is a delight. This book is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, going from truly sad to laughing out loud a few pages later. Pick the Right Time Finding the right time to talk to the widower is critical. As I said in my other review, he can be very funny. Jonathan Tropper writes the dialogue between the two men along with what they are really thinking about each other. I turned the last page and thought, "That's it? The only real ending is death, and trust me, no one dies happy. Last time I was in England, I picked up three new books to read during my trip. This was a quick and easy read but not one that I will really remember. So much humour among the sadness. This guy has a fgreat writing style. Before we get to that, let’s talk about your story of when you became a widower. There have been many great “storytellers” throughout history. "How to Talk to a Widower is about a 29 year old guy who loses his slightly older wife in a plane crash. Again and again, he hits the nail on the head, while telling his story with sympathy and humour. They are poignant, sweet, funny, vicious, and insightful. I’ve read several of his novels back-to-back and the narrators seem very similar, but I like them.
The story begins with several short lines that immediately caught my attention and lingered in my mind….Every now and then I feel the urge to 'binge' read. This book made me laugh made me cry. How to Talk to a Widower Is there really an interesting story about a depressed young man who does nothing but painfully mourn his wife’s death in a plane crash? To the chagrin of his family, an aging drummer from a one-hit-wonder band refuses life-saving surgery in Tropper's latest novel, One Last Thing Bef..."Beautifully crafted", "Fantastically funny." "Best book I've read in over 50 years... since A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." And the price of not dying is that things change all the time, and the only thing you can count on is that there’s not a thing you can do about it.” — Jonathan Tropper, How To Talk To a WidowerAfter reading all of Tropper's books, its interesting to notice his progression and certain kinds of scenes that are unique to him. Doug has lost his wife and friends and family members feel that it is more than time for him to get out their dating again. Doug is a 29 year old widower and just wants to drown in self pity but his family has other ideas....Well this was nice. Tropper co-wrote the film adaptation of The Book of Joe with Ed Burns, who will direct. Never a predictable scenario and humor even in serious and sad situations. The characters are so real and it made me think that life really is this way. Enter your mobile number or email address below and we'll send you a link to download the free Kindle App.
I love how real his characters are, how easily you fall into his world and fall in love with his characters. "Compulsively readable." This particular book was funnier, I thought, than the others I have read. The story begins with several short lines that immediately caught my attention and lingered in my mind….I don't know why it took me so long to get back to read another book by Jonathan Tropper. This one was supposed to be amazing. The type of text that comes out is is either dick/chick lit, meaning witty novels about the complicated relationship between men and women, or some quasi post-modern bullshit which nobody understands and everybody praises for exactly that reason. I'll be laughing hysterically at the top of the page, but by the time I reach the bottom of the same page my eyes are leaking.

I read it in a few nights and while I couldn't put it down, I felt robbed toward the end of the book.
I think we are all familiar with the stereotype of the so called "modern" writer: the kind of guy or girl who sits at Starbucks, smokes a Silk Cut (or a Djarum or other aromaticized poison if he or she is hip enough) and types away on a MacBook. Tropper loves setting up utterly ridiculous scenes, usually involving family, that are totally hilarious, I believe there was one in book of joe involving a family dinner and a parrot. I bought this book Monday morning and was done by it on Tuesday afternoon. All in all I think this is a great read, out of all of his books I'd say this is #2, book of joe still claims the top spot in my opinion. The title of the book put me off for a while and that was a shame. The story is hilarious and tragic, sometimes on the same page. Published
