He provided us with insight into both the natural and spiritual wonder of the canyon, entertained us with stories of previous trekkers and his own exploits, ensured our safety and kept us well fed. We did the three day Phantom Ranch trip in November, 2016 after doing the Havasu Falls trip in 2014. This year we were lucky with sunshine. Otherwise you will be charged the prevailing standard rate. Mule trips require 2 day minimum if descending into the canyon and typically book a full year in advance. It is on the north side of the Colorado River tucked in beside Bright Angel Creek. One full day or an overnight and most of 2 days is sufficient for GCNP On your way from Sedona to GC, stop in Flagstaff for lunch and a walk around. We hike, we play cards, we browse the National Park Service bookshops, we eat (of course!) Bedding and towels are provided for each guest occupying a dorm bed. We had such an amazing time that two years later, we invited my parents. Unfortunately the mule rides book up to a year in advance and the overnight requires a stay at Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. While we were there, I encountered my old Park Service boss, who was giving an orientation tour of the Ranch to the brand new Superintendent of the Park, Dick Marks. As an occasional hiker, I don't own a lot of outdoor equipment, and having access to high quality gear without having to research and purchase it (or take up space in my luggage while flying) was a big advantage to booking through Wildland.
