Not a bad sports movie.Michael Rainey, Jr. makes for a compelling lead and the basketball sequences are directed with genuine passion, but Netflix's Amateur is a rather generic and unremarkable sports tale with a poorly paced, lackluster story at its center.pretty enjoyable and genuine story that is unfortunately plagued by awful pacing and a below average script, the young lead is really good though and I hope to see more of him in the future. The movie struggles to find its footing BUT when it does; it works.Came into it not expecting much but left really happy with the end result.This wasn't really anything special but for me it was good enough. The side characters outside the family weren't all that compelling, but fortunately, the lead was great. There is really nothing else to say other then Netflix really got lazy with this one...Initially, I thought we were going to be in for a treat. But a positive feeling on a young kid losing his youth to the game and talent. It's 100+ pages on what you need to know to make beautiful, inexpensive movies using a DSLR. Very solid movie.This thing got off to a rough start but slowly began to find its footing. But the further the film went, the more obvious it was that writer and director Ryan Khoo had bitten off more than he could chew with a limited budget.
