The Division of Trauma, Critical Care, Burn and Emergency Surgery at the University of Arizona offers a number of continuing education courses and certifications for professionals working in critical care. Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to sit for the Critical Care Paramedic exam.

Students will work with their EMS agency to identify a project, submit the project to course instructors, revise the project based on instructor feedback, complete the project and submit a final summary or the project to course instructors.

Students are expected to attend training, events, shifts, and other activities as assigned by their EMS Agency.C: This course provides Paramedics a mentored clinical experience through their current employer or volunteer agency of their choosing. If you fail to register for the exam, or if you determine not to sit for the exam, there is not a partial course tuition refund that is returned to you. It builds on prior paramedic education by providing the basic science background necessary to adapt to the ever-changing medical field. At the completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of current EMS systems across the United States and how to optimize their function. Course topics will include airway obstruction, croup, bronchiolitis, pneumonia, asthma, cardiac arrest, dysrhythmias, shock, sepsis, altered mental status, traumatic brain injury, seizures, neonatal resuscitation, and special needs/technology dependent children.This course provides students with EMS special operations training in the areas of hazardous materials response, search and rescue, tactical EMS, and Military EMS.A: This course is designed for students working with the University of Arizona EMS Agency. Upon completion of the course, students will meet Arizona requirements for those students with a certification as a paramedic to function as a Community Paramedic in a treat-and-refer program.This course provides Paramedics with the background knowledge and skills necessary to provide emergency medical care in the wilderness or limited resource environments.This course will provide an overview of the initial assessment and emergency management of children according to the pediatric assessment triangle. This course is available online with one required skills day in person.This course covers the core concepts of EMS systems and operations. At the completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of current EMS systems across the United States and how to optimize their function. It prepares students to understand the full range of subspecialty EMS roles with advanced clinical knowledge and leadership skills to succeed in the health-care industry. Paramedics receive 48 hour ALS Refresher that meets DHS and NREMT requirements for re-certification. This will include how to perform invasive out of hospital care. Students will be tasked with activities throughout the semester and will report to the instructors on their progress. This will include how to perform invasive out of hospital care. This degree program is for individuals who are currently certified as a paramedic at the state or national level. Students are expected to attend training, events, shifts, and other activities as assigned by their EMS Agency.This course is designed for students in leadership positions at the University of Arizona EMS Agency (UEMS Chief, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, Captains of training, logistics, and personnel). The program provides these paramedics with additional training in EMS clinical core content areas (critical care, community paramedicine, special operations, etc), basic sciences (physiology, chemistry, biology, etc), leadership, health care systems, and communications. EMD 410 - Critical Care.

With the completion of EMD 197, students will have attained the required training hours to test for certification as an EMT through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMTs).The Advanced Emergency Medical Services course will cover the basics of EMS systems for University EMS service members and the general student body.
