Personally, I usually base myself in either Falmouth or St Ives which are centrally located for many of the small coastal south coast towns. Fowey. Also for driving around, Fowey is well placed mid way up the South coast,so you can get all around I agree with all the information posted here. I suppose I am just looking for that chocolate box Cornwall town, pretty harbour, narrow cobbled streets, quaint shops and restaurants. My husband and I (mid 30’s) take my parents on holiday ( fit and healthy 70’s) in May. I don’t think there are any particular sites that we would feel are ‘must see’. A good place to base yourself would be St Agnes as it is, geographically speaking, sort of in the middle but on the coast and nice and quiet but with good local amenities. Beginning of June would be much cheaper and less people than the bank holiday week/weekend.If you like "easy but beautiful walks" then the coast path (over the top or on the waters edge) from You are unlikely to find self catering on Scilly for 3 days and at time of year most of the properties will be fully booked. You might find a hotel but not that last week 25th May to 2nd June when it is the school holidays. Good bases near Lands End would be St Ives (small town, very pretty, lots of shops and plenty of places to eat and drink; lovely beach also), Porthleven (on the Lizard coast), which is smaller than St Ives but again some lovely places to eat and drink and some lovely walks.
